Friend or Foe?

My best friend lives in another state (I moved for work, we've been friends about 3 years). We communicate mostly through Facebook, instant messaging, and phone calls. Things aren't going great in her life - money problems, relationship problems, and weight issues. In the past 6 months things have been really wonderful for me - new career opportunities and I have lost more than 50lbs and am having success working toward my fitness goals.
She's always "had her moments" where she would be rude, distanct, critical, or inconsiderate but we have such good times that I learned to deal with it. Also, I feel she really gets me, we have a lot in common. However, since things have been good for me she couldn't care less. We talk about her ups and downs but she doesn't ask what's going on with me.
If we're chatting online and I offer up a story of something that happened to me, most of the time she will just go "away". She'll be idle and then come back 15 minutes later and change the subject. Othertimes she'll make some sort of backhanded comment or make a joke but still won't talk about my succeses or my failures. Lately, it's felt like a one-sided friendship.
She is not only my best friend, but my only close friend. I have aquaintances but my close friendships have for several reasons dwindled, went our seperate ways, or lost common interests.
I suspect she is a toxic friend, I feel unsatisfied and ignored. But I feel she is my only close friend left. If I cut off ties, which lately I have been wanting to do, I will be lonely. I have trouble meeting new people or I don't know where to meet friends as an adult. I tried making some new friends, meeting new people and what I found was I didn't like them or we didn't have much in common. I want a best friend, a close friend, someone who gets me.

Help!
