Do you gain weight during your period or the week before?

I usually gain the week before and lose it all the day before I get my period. Is this typical?

I usually lose most of it the morning of my period, and then lose the rest of the bloat the weekend after it's started....
hope that helps! :)

Please god tell me there really aren't that many women out there that haven't experienced the pre-period weight gain and know that this is NORMAL!! Where are these women from? Or maybe they are girls whose moms never told them about this.

You can LOSE double the weight during that time

When I exercise and drink lots of water during that time, I LOSE DOUBLE the amount of weight I lose the week before and during my period. I'm starting to look forward to that time of month :)

I agree, I feel like I burn more calories the week of my period. I know I'm extra hungry - not just the munchies, but an honest deep in the gut hunger. So if I fill up on high fiber filling foods and get in the exercise and water, I lose lots.

I'm always super hungry a couple days before my period, so if I don't give into every craving I don't notice much of a change. I think I tend to retain water for the first couple days, but no noticeable weight jump. I usually end up losing weight by the end of the thing.

I read somewhere that women crave ~15% more calories during their period because their bodies burn ~15% more calories at that time.

I am just shocked by how rude women can be...and you two are just that. Please let's support one another. Does it really matter that there have been previous posts about this? No!!! If the OP has this question, let her ask it without having to make herfeel bad for doing so. If you don't like the post, then why did you click into it? There are a lot of posts that I find offensive or sometimes even rediculous...I just ignore them. You have the same choice!!!

I definitely feel hungrier before my period- and like pp said, not munchies or cravings kind of hunger, but I NEED FOOD! hunger. :)
I tend to gain pre-m weight about 4-5 days before, and then I lose most of it the day of my period and the rest about 2-3 days after. And then, bonus, I also don't feel ravenous once I get my period. If anything, I feel less hungry!
I do want to share, though, that since I stopped taking BC, I don't feel bloated at all before my period. I do feel hungrier, but no bloated, "I'm a fat cow" feeling. I hope it stays this way!

Period weight gain

it's really annoying, I keep losing the weight and gaining it back. I can gain up to 4 pounds at a time. The salt thing is not helping either, I need to have some salt in my food, otherwise it's really difficult to eat, although trying to minimise it. Would appreciate any help and advice. The worst was I had it during my marriage, I looked terribly bloated, but looked fine the week after at the reception :((

YOU are a rude inconsiderate asshole. Maybe this girl DOESN'T have a mom and maybe that IS why she is asking and isn't aware. You dont know her situation, so save your bitchass comment for a thread you can actually be of help too!

Dang, girl, calm down. That person who wrote that wrote it like in 2006. She's probably not even around anymore.

I've been involved with PT for a year, and this topic is always helpful. I have a mom, but she didn't really sit me down and tell me every, single little detail like, "You will gain wait and be insatiably hungry." So, I really didn't even really notice this was an issue until I started losing weight last August. At this time I started paying more attention to my body, to my cycle and to my moods and cravings.

I find that I gain a pound or two the week before and lose it the first two days of my period. The week before I am INSATIABLY hungry for EVERYTHING - especially salty foods.

I gain the week before and release some weight the day it starts and a few days after my first day.

My mother taught me this and it is really true for my body anyway. PMS stands for "Pre"-menstral syndrome, pre-meaning before :)

And there are plenty of mothers who haven't taught it to their daughters right and maybe they didn't have a great mother like I am fortunate to have!

I also have a slight bit of an anxiety disorder going on, having no insurance is no fun w/this. Anyway, I can really really feel myself get anxious the week before. It is crazy. I can "feel" my PMS coming on.

PMS and cramps

I used to have lots of PMS and cramps right before my period. One of my friends told me about flax seed. I started adding grounded flax seed on my food and right after that, I started noticing that my pms was a lot better. It is almost nonexistent.
My husband is the one who loved it the most!
He says that flax seed saved our marriage haha
:-)

Arrogant, that you are.

It's different for every women, that's why they are asking. Your mom should have told you that too. Maybe they're not the only girls whose moms never told them about this. Talk to your mother again. And make sure she covers everything with you.
