New Foods That You Can Keep In Your Home That Take 60 Seconds To Prepare

By Jackie Wicks, PEERtrainer co-founder
I have to come clean about something. My new cooking videos have people thinking that I love to cook. I don't hate it, but I am very much a "pick your battles" kind of person. I go out of my way to make things easy, I have no choice. The vegetable soup I make, for example, is a "high return and low impact" meal. I get a lot out of it. It turns off my hunger, lasts for days and takes 15 minutes to prepare.

But I much prefer meals that take a couple minutes to prepare. So I thought it made sense to assemble a list of food ideas that are loaded with nutrients that help you feel full, are flavorful, and are also really easy to prepare.

1. The first thing on my list are pre-made Indian food pouches. Seems like Indian food is catching on like Sushi and Mexican food did a couple decades ago. You can now get very well made Indian food in easy to open foil pouches, and have them heated in 60 seconds. Two brands and flavors that I have in my kitchen at all times are Kitchens Of India Chick Peas Curry and Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant.

These are both extremely versatile- you can use them to flavor other dishes, which is something I do all the time. Just last night I threw some shredded potatoes and some beef into a frying pan and then tossed in a pouch of Chick Peas Curry. Easy, tasty, filling, big jolt of nutrients and spices. Both companies have other flavors as well, but we get these ones because they are gluten and dairy free. You can order them right off Amazon, which is a great place to get low priced groceries. It might be a good idea to try a variety pack of the different dishes. Once you find the ones you like, you then have a very powerful tool for your easy cooking arsenal.

Funny Story About These Indian Food Packs:

We were visiting a friend who used to work with Martha Stewart. Habib was making a simple dish of spinach and Chick Peas curry in her kitchen. She freaked out after tasting the dish, and said that "she had to had the recipe!" Habib went to her trash and pulled out the box of Chick peas curry and the empty container of frozen spinach. She was so impressed she wrote a story about it in her local food blog. So not only can this help you cook quickly, it can be something to serve when you have company over in some way.

2. I have become an Almond Butter fanatic. It tastes fantastic. What I realized though is most people say "where do you get that?" I get mine at Whole Foods, but it is suprising how many people are intimidated by that place. Something that is very easy, and also fits into a briefcase, purse, lunchbox or gymbag are Justin's Nut Butter Snack Packs.

If you have these when you are on the go, you can easily squeeze them on to an apple or vegetable for the best snack ever. If you are stuggling to get your kids to eat healthier, you might want to cut up an apple and see if you can get them to squeeze the almond butter on the apple. Because the packaging is so nice it LOOKS like the regular junk food that so many are conditioned to love. Justins in particular is a good brand because they have a variety of flavors. This is very important because we are all looking for things that taste good. They have several flavors as well which you can try.

3. Soup Soup Soup Soup Soup Soup.
Most of you know I am on a massive soup kick right now. I know a lot of you have made my vegetable, high nutrient soup. But you can now get high quality soup in a convenient package that you keep at home. The line is made by Dr. McDougall, who is a contemporary of Dr. Fuhrman. This is important because he understands nutrient density, and how the right nutrients will fill you up.

Click here to browse his line of soups. The link takes you right to Amazon. His Black Bean and Lime soup is the #9 top selling soup on Amazon. Which is interesting because you will not see this next to Campbell's on the supermarket shelf. The internet levels the playing field, and allows innovators like Dr. McDougall to bring great things to market.

Let me know what you think, and please leave your high nutrient instant snack ideas on this thread in the PEERtrainer community.
