Afraid or embarrased to show up for a Weight Watchers meeting?
Someone wrote us in our tip of the day saying that they ate too much during the week and felt embarassed about going in this week. This was an interesting comment because I am sure that it is common. It also shows that the peer pressure or whatever it is- is working! This person is going to go back on a different day and try again. For some reason I found this interesting.

Afraid or embarrased to show up for a Weight Watchers meeting?
I can absolutely relate to this feeling, although I am not a member of WW. We have a local group that is meeting to weigh-in and work out together. I have skipped the weigh-in day and exercised at home. I knew they would be there for me to pep me up, but I didn't feel I could handle all of their motivational talks and comments. I didn't quit the program. I knew it was there and ready for me. I just couldn't be a face at the program on those particular days. I don't want to be the person to bring anyone else down. Nor do I want to be the failure in the group. When I did go back I owned up to why I hadn't been there and as I knew it would be the support was there for me.

SKIPPING WEIGH INs
The urge to skip the meetings and weigh-ins is familiar. I MAKE myself go because I don't want the issue of my weight to have that much power There are always others who have or have had the same problem. I want to be more brave than that ! After a week at Disneyland, I gained 1.5 lbs, and it's discouraging to think a grown adult can't keep from eating cotton candy. When I overdo, I ask myself out loud , "Why are you doing this?" I still haven't found the answer so I try this and that. The latest tip is chewing gum while I'm preparing food. I've even dreamed of having my teeth wired so all I can do is drink liquids. But, I wouldn't have learned anything about myself. I'll never give up, but I may not ever figure it out.

Weight Watchers No Weigh-in Pass
I sometimes skip meetings fro the same reason even though I know it's the time when I need it most. But Weight Watchers gives a No Weigh-In pass when you join which lets you go to the meeting (and pay) but not get on the scale.
I find a similar phenomenon as a lifetime member. If I am at or close to goal (so won't need to pay), I will go. But if I fear I am over the two-pound grace, I will stay home in the hopes that I will be within range the following week. Of course this only works when I am close to goal and only if I have been going pretty regularly anyway. You have to weigh-in once a month regardless or you will have to pay anyway.

What is more embarassing- attending weight watchers or wearing a bathing suit in public? Weight watchers is so worth the embarassment.

weight watchers and not going
These psychological reasons are why I haven't yet joined weight watchers. I am afraid that the motivators will overmotivate or misunderstand me, that group pressure will be a turn off, and more. I feel as if I've been doing really well gradually losing and keeping off the 10 pounds I've shed so far and I want to incorporate the progress I've made and the good habits I've learned into my future weight loss. I am afraid that by going to a meeting I will stop for fast food on th way home or something equally bad and I just don't want to take the chance.

Afraid or embarrased to show up for a Weight Watchers meeting?
I had a similar experience and stayed away until it was time to rejoin. I too was very embarrassed as I did not lose anything for weeks and gained 3 pounds. waiting to rejoin is something that I would recommend; however, I was really ready to jump into the program this time.
The timing was off and I was helping others through some personal hardships that attributed to me eating more. Interestingly, since Memorial day...my friend lost 15 pounds going through her loss, while I ate and gained 3 pds. I just rejoined WW and I did go back to the same time and same place as before.

&:25 Good idea wear the bathing suit. It might just help you lose or at least stay the same. You know sometimes the scale lies!

Embarrased to show up at WW mtg
oh, my yes~but I showed up after staying on the the plan and I had gained-that is also painful. NONE of the other members make you uncomfortable and the Leader certainly does not-she simply said, "Try bumping up your activity." My doc did not want me to join, said it would be too stressful-and he was right, but if WW is too stressful, how else will I take off the weight? Alone, does not work. WW + peertrainer + friends = success.

WW weigh-ins-another comment
The one thing I have not seen in the comments is that WW always, always says, if you fall off your healthy eating plan, get up and get back on! You must never, never use the word "diet." WW bills itself as a plan for life-hence the "Lifetime Member" program. When you sign up online-auto payments!- you have access to their "etools" - a very handy site. You can build your own recipes and see how many points per serving and adjust your meal accordingly. If you can afford $39.95/month deducted from your account, I suggest you try it! And there are groups all over-don't be afraid to chose the one supports YOU. Also, no one mentioned the "Weekly Points Allowance"-anyone want to address that?
* PS-I do not like the WW foods, I prefer fresh, but use the "Healthy Choice" only as back-up.

Years ago when I did WW I recall everyone wearing lighter clothes, removing jewelry etc. No water the day of weigh in etc. It really played tricks with "Some" people's heads. So I can see where it could be a lot of stress for " Some" people and they would skip a weigh in or feel sad about it.

There are so many NSV(non scale victories) that members can share and be proud of. Just coming to a meeting or sharing with on-line members is a huge victory.
Confidentially is high and leaders never talk about someones weight unless they have permission.
Each member has something valuable to share with others regarding their lifestyle change.
That is the key.WW teaches a life style change. It is not a diett

I think one of the reasons that weight watchers works is because you have to get on the scale every week in front of someone else. If you gained weight, you have to own up to it and make the necessary changes to see better results the following week. You have to know where you stand.

skipping the WW Weigh-in
I can totally relate and laughed out loud at the cosmic sense of humor in seeing this post. Because I am supposed to be weighing in this morning but have decided to skip a week-this is my second week at WW. I did not have a good week with my tracking, counting points, etc. I think there is something to what you said about not being ready to commit to the program combined with a rebellious person (myself). this is when I start to think I should be seeing a shrink. I have about 75 pounds to lose, I join WW and then I play these games with myself-it is maddening. I quit, then the cycle begins again...crazy!
