I ike El Pollo Loco - I can order 2 pieces of chik and order of beans and just add lots of no-cal salsa. Its tota.lly filling. They also have a pretty good chik tortilla soup with lots of veggies.

My chain rest. of choice (fast food, anyway) is McDonalds. I'm NOT claiming that anything they have is too healthy, though!

I order "just-egg" mcmuffins -- ask them to leave off the meat and cheese. An egg on an English muffin is not too bad.

Also, I am mindful of portions. I love their fries, and every once in a while get a small order of fries, eat half, then throw the rest away.

eating out

Eating out is obviously difficult (thats why the food tastes soooo good). BUT, the good news is, that nearly all chains (starbucks, mcdonalds, cosi, dunkin donuts etc etc) have websites w/ nutritional information for all of their food/beverage. This is great, if you have time to plan ahead (and sometimes its very interesting to compare 'good' v 'bad' places to go).

On the other hand...if you dont do some research ahead or they dont have the info available for some reason, lots of places have menu sections entitled "On the lighter side" or "Low carb/Weight Watchers choices." As far as chain restaurants go, I know that Chilis, Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays, and AppleBees all have menu sections like this.

Eating out is definitely a challenge, but it doesnt have to be a disaster!! :)

I like Sizzler.
They have an excellent salad bar with fresh fruit even. I had their salmon once too and it was really good.

I like the Keg - I'll order a 10 oz sirloin (and eat half), the house salad w/honey mustard dijon vinegarette, steamed asparagus (no butter) and a few bites of my hubands garlic mashed potatoes. It's my usual 'cheat' meal and I can easily justify it.

If I am splurging and plan ahead, my husband and I go to Texas Roadhouse. I try to stay away from the rolls, but they are tasty. I go there for their ribs. Yummy! 1/2 slab is about 550 calories. I order it with a house salad and bring my own dressing (Kraft Light Ranch at 70 calories for 2 Tbsp) and a baked potato with A1 and a little butter. Lately, I haven't been able to finish the meal, so I leave the potato and eat the salad first.
