losing water weight?

Ok, on the one hand I need to drink lots of water to flush out toxins and whatnot. On the other hand I don't want to retain all this water and be puffy. What is the deal with water retention- what causes us to keep more water than we need? what is the ideal balance for our body?

Lots of things cause water retention (sodium intake, medications, standing too long, etc. - all of which you can read about if you Google it!), but drinking lots of water isn't one of them. Drink that water!

dehydration is another thing that will make you reatain water. Drinking water is the best thing you can do for that. It's really the best thing you can do for your body.
