Fascinating article!

Today's New England Journal of Medicine has an article, widely covered in the press, about how social networks effect both obesity and weight loss.

If a friend of yours gains or loses weight, you are statistically more likely to as well. One interesting speculation covered in the press is that what is considered "normal" and "acceptable" among friends changes.

They referenced the aticle on GMA this morning. Very interesting - it would explain why obesity has escalated to be such a problem, if your social stop gaps are not present.

The Bloomberg article was pretty awful. It added a lot of "facts" not included in the study. If you're interested, here's the study from the New England Journal of Medicine.

The Bloomberg article pointed out the effects on "girls", especially when they came to discussing career opportunities. What about men????? I think this is indicative of yet another "social problem" that the article fails to address altogether.
