acne and birth control

I have heard from several people that certain birth control options can help clear up acne. I just wanted to see what anyone has to say about this or their experience. I have moderate acne and have tried tons of stuff for it, now I am wondering about killing 2 birds with one stone and getting on birth control.

I used to get moderate acne, then went on Ortho Tri-Cyclen Low 3 years ago. It really did clear up my skin, although I sometimes do get breakouts closer to my period. The texture and tone of my skin also improved. I get complimented on it all the time. Not sure if that was a result of BC or not, but I have heard it regulates hormones, therefore can do that. It does make you gain weight in most cases ( 7 pounds in 2 years for me), which varies from person to person. So weigh your options and talk to your doc about the best one for you.

Just to let you know, I am on Yaz, which is supposed to help acne, but it has given me acne! I had good skin to begin with but now my skin is really dry and I get rashy looking breakouts on my cheeks. I think because my skin is irritated from being dried out. Hormones are connected to the oil production of your skin so if yours is already okay then it might not improve your skin. But if your acne is caused by too much oil production then it will probably help.

I have many friends that have used Accutane and loved it. Their skin is beautiful and glows! If I had severe acne I would not hesitate to use it, under the careful guidance of my doctor of course.

accutane

i have never used accutane and never will, for all the good stories there are a lot of bad ones. acctune causes joint problems in a lot of people, most of who say after they go off accutane they still have stiff joint. it is a very serious treatment and expensive.
