Kettle Bells and other "simple" functional things

I am apsara, and I am a vidiot. this is true. For over 10 yrs, I have been addicted to exercise vids.

Recently, I realized that despite this 10 year long addiction and despite having lots of super hardcore stuff in my collectoin (i.e. cathe friedrich), I have not increased strength much more than the first whatever percentage increase, nor am I super cut/buff!!! LOL! What's wrong with me?

No, really - i get bored, but fundamentally I just stopped believing that loads of reps or low ends, or whatever were even needed to achieve the goals I wanted.

I moved my cardio workouts to the elliptical (i was lucky enough to get a precor efx 54x used from my gym for 500 dollars. My inlaws helped move it - and voila - an awesome elliptical - 500 bucks). I use cardiocoach.com workouts - sometimes itrain.com - but I love CC so much, I tend not to do it.

But strength? I found that i just didn't want to do an hour long strength workout. I like the splits in p90x and I will do them, but only 45 minutes ... anything longer seems useless.

So I started thinkinga bout kettlebells - which is an amazing experience (took an intro class) - what a workout. hard mostly because of form - and taxing, yes - but very very fun.

And then I remembered this link in my bookmark -

http://www.shovelglove.com/

I'm off to buy a sledgehammer.

It's fun for me to workout this way. My kids probably will think i'm insane one day - especially because I have a wooden samurai sword and I do Ilaria's forza workout once a week (You can get the workout from amazon), but I say - who cares! It's a lot of fun!

Sounds like you have some pretty creative solutions for an authentic workout. Worked for Rocky and Mr. Incredible, so it's gotta be good. =)

I'll also try to let you know if the sledgehammer knocks me in the head. Did you read some of the 'embarrassing moment' posts there? I loved the commentary in some of the videos showing how to do the moves
