Studying Habits

I'm a student and I find that my diet goes to hell when I have a really difficult semester. I like to snack alot when i study. It's never awful snacking. Mostly protein bars/fruit/low-cal popcorn, etc, but it really affects my diet.

Any ideas on what to eat? How to stop?

gum and lots of water could replace some of the snacking. If it's an oral fixation, then maybe just chewing on a straw or something of that sort.

Change the environment where you study, and you may better be able to control what you eat. I found in college, that if I studied in my dorm/apartment, that I'd eat constantly. But if I went to a coffeehouse, I could sit with a bottomless cup of coffee and no food (and just a little skim milk and artificial sweetener) forever. Or if I'd study at the library, they didn't allow food, so that was good too. (I hated our main library, but found that the business library and the library in the school of social work were perfectly inviting.)

Also, when I'd go elsewhere to study, I'd buckle down and get through it; when I studied at home, I'd get up often to check e-mail, put on the TV, chat with roommates, etc. So, when I'd change my scenery, I'd end up having to spend way less time studying than if I did it at home!
