SHIN SPLINTS

I have had shin splints since I was 12 (20 years now). I have tried EVERY shoe on the market, every orthodic over the counter, every stretch imaginable, seen numerous athletic med docs, iced, wrapped, taped, etc. I gave up walking and running 9 years ago because i couldn't stand the pain anymore. Three months ago I started the Couch to 5K program because I love running and needed to lose weight. I couldn't get through 1/2 mile without pain, but tried my best to get through week 1, then 2, and i broke at week 3.

I was at my chiropractors office one day telling them about my running and my pain. They said they could fix it for me or no charge. I said bring it on.

I started with massage to my legs, then stretches, adjustments to my ankles and feet, then ultrasound therapy for 7 minutes each leg to reduce swelling and inflammation. i did this 2x a week for 2 weeks. Then on my 5th visit, we did massage, adjustments, and microelectric stimulation for 10 minutes. That was on Friday. He told me to start walking and see how I do, no new shoes, no orthodics, just walk.

I have walked 4 miles in three days PAIN FREE!!! I can't wait to start running again.

If you suffer from severe shin splints, this may be a great option for you. Contact your local chiropractor and ask if they perform these types of therapies.

Good luck!
