Protien or Carbs for post-workout recovery

I am getting in shape to run a 1/2 marathon this summer. I have started pushing myself, and now have to figure out how to best recuperate. What is the best thing to eat after?

Most folks I know who do similar things say "carbs before and protein after". Carbs for fuel and protein to rebuild muscles.

Both, you need carbs to restock your glycogen stores in your liver so that next time you run you have energy in the tank instead of running on empty. You also need protein to build muscle and its' an alternate for fuel. The best things to consume are eggs and milk in my opinion, I used to make a shake with milk, protein powder mix and fruit, usually bananas and berries but I am not taking it that serious anymore. I just make sure I get some of every kind of macromolecule.

Great article...now all I need is to find a tupperware "shot glass" to take some of my whey powder to the gym with me. Funny part is, I'm not joking.

To the above poster!! Great idea! I just got one of those at a tupper ware party a few weeks ago - I got one because it was my first attendance at a tupperware party!!
