Hot Tea = water??

Does drinking hot tea count towards your water consumption?

Herbal tea / Green tea = yes, treat as water

Black/normal tea = count half towards your water (due to caffeine acting as a diuretic...but since there's not a whole lot in it, about 40mg, you get some water "credit").

Sodas containing caffeine = half a water credit (they contain about the same as black tea).

Coffee, however, doesn't count as water at all because of its high caffeine content (100mg).

All beverages count toward beverage consumption. You are right that caffeine acts as a diuretic but that means you have to drink more to stay hydrated. Its the same thing as if you drank water when your taking lasix for your heart, lasix is a diuretic by the way. You just have to drink more to replenish what you lose in your urine. Its very complicated and I don't think it would be wise to go further into depth. If you need more info do a google search for diuretic or lasix or caffeine or something. All beverages count toward beverage consumption even milk, but not as much because it has more carbs and protein.

Soda's do not count as water. Ask your doctor I did. Soda's are soda's all they do is increase your sugar and making you want more.

If you are not sure ask your doctor.
