Overeaters Anonymous

I've gone through the losing/gaining weight cycle about 5 - 6 times now. I would do really well for a while and lose weight, and then something triggers my eating, and I can't seem to stop. I eat scary amount of food at these times. I've just gone through my latest binge eating period and gained about 15 lbs in 4 months. I've tried to overcome this problem on my own - Beck, PONR, Geneen Roth books, etc. but haven't been able to solve this problem. I'm considering going to OA meetings. Has anyone tried OA and if so, how was your experience?

OA meetings are very inspiring; however, the main premise of OA is that, "We can only over come our addiction to food with the help of a Higher Power." The testimonies of people who have lost weight are very inspiring. Another premise is, "Take what you want and leave the rest." In other words you can take the advice that will work for you, and the advice which doesn't fit you can disregard. I think it would be worth checking out. Good luck.
