Jelly Belly "Energy" Beans?

I saw these at a sports store recently?
Has anyone tried them? Do they taste good? and do you think they help? I'm looking for alternatives to Gatorade for a long distance walk... I'm wondering if these are any good?

try em...

Does not hurt to try them... or try and call the company and get a free sample. I would think you would want some sort of liquid... I always get thirsty when I am moving about... especially in warmer weather.

Oh, these are definitely meant to be consumed with water. I'm sure of that (due to the electrolytes within.) Anyways I was looking for somethng to use during a 20 mile walk in August, so I may take your advice and contact the company for a sample-- I didn't think of that!

I'm thinking that if they are tolerable, they would keep better and taste better than the powergel I currently use (or the gatorade)

There was a review of them on ivillage.com. I only know that because my best friend is the author of the article. Here's the link:

I tried 'em

and they taste horrible. Better to just buy regular jellybeans for the calories, then, and use cytomax for electrolyte replacement (some like to add a bit of salt ot the cytomax) I prefer splitting between Gu shots and 1/4 portions of clif bars on long endurance rides.

Aha! personal experience is what I was looking for.
Which flavor did you try? I was thinking of buying a pack of the orange ones to see if I liked them. I have been using power gel and gatorade, but I don't like the idea of washing my mouth with sugars for 3 days....

When I've trained for a marthon in the past, I would eat regular jelly beans during my long runs along with Gatorade. I personally prefer cytomax drinks, and the Cytomax gels for more sustained energy.

lemon lime

that's the flavor I tried. Ick. There was an article in Bicycling magazine back around Halloween that gave you the calorie breakdown of all your favorite candy to use for long rides. 'Course Snickers are good b/c you get protein and sugar.

Unfortunately, Snickers are so sweet, they make my teeth hurt thinking about them... :-(

I'm trying to stay away from things that are too sugary-- they just make me thirstier and it seemed that maybe the Jelly Belly Sports Beans (maybe in orange) would taste better. But are they a lot "saltier" than regular flavors?

Is the cytomax drinks available in powder form? is it expensive?

We got the Cytomax in powder form. It was under $20 (cannot remember the size of the container), but I felt that was expensive. However, I normally run with Gatorade (long runs of 9 miles or more), and I was felt more thirsty after drinking, so I tried the Cytomax this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I honestly felt more energetic. I really like the gels too. I like the vanilla, and they're easy to take in.

used them to train

i've been using these while training for a 1/2 and full marathon. I love them! I've tried the gels and energy blox which both taste horrible and the texture makes me feel like puking. These beans taste just like normal jelly beans and they really work. I'd highly recommend them!

The jelly beans never appealed since I don't even like regular jelly beans. I love chocolate outrage flavored GU energy gels, apples, plain water & peanut butter crunch Clif bars on long endurance rides. I've found a good balance between taste and what my stomach will tolerate during heavy, sustained exercise.

I like Clif Bloks. I use them when i am out on long bike rides. My favorite flavor is black cherry which has a little caffeine. They really help after miles of hills.

I like ultima as an electrolyte drink. It is sweetened with stevia but it has the appropriate electrolytes.

I have had jelly bellies and I was ok with them but I prefer Clif products.

If you like tiny jelly type electrolyte products Honey Stinger makes some really nice little jelly bean like chews. They taste good. I had the cherry ones. I may buy some more when I see them on sale.
