funny story: philly cheese steaks work for plateau

A friend of mine told me the funniest story last night. She's lost 14 pounds so far (yeah her!) but it had been over 2 weeks and she was still at the 14 pound mark. She got so annoyed that she went out and ate a GIGANTIC philly cheese steak with extra cheese, dripping in greasy onions. Then she had an extra large bag of skittles and a donut and a large coke. The next morning she gets on the scale and she lost 2 more pounds (16 total). I swear, this is a true story. What in the world?

me too

the same thing happened to me. i had a pretty bad week, and ended up losing like 3lbs. don't know why, maybe its like the whole exercising thing. once your body gets use to it, then you need to do something else.

when your body gets used to a certain amount of calories, it will plateau, as it will use those calories more effectively- overload it, and it shocks your system- your body says "I don't need all this!" So it burns it off, and starts burning more. That's why alot of people support varying caloric intakes- keep your body guessing.

yes, thanks to the 3:50 poster. The same thing happened to me as the OP said happened to her friend (but I didn't go quite that overboard).

Yeah, whenever I get totally sick of dieting and give in for a day or two, as long as I get right back on track, I always end up losing weight!

I read somewhere online that if you're at a plateau, you should eat something that you would think would make you gain weight-it will jump start your metabolism. I've been afraid to try it, though, until I read your story. McDonalds-here I come! LOL

as the saying goes, if you keep doing things the same, you'll get the same results. If you plateau for more than a month, CHANGE SOMETHING. Personal opinion, running the same deficit everyday if you're calorie counting, is too routine for your body- it will adjust. Your body doesn't prefer to run at a defecit- it will find a way to balance. Keep it guessing.

sure enough

I have always been told that when you reach a weight loss plateau to recharge your metabolism by eating what your body LEAST expects.

I sure wish I could eat a large Philly and loose 2 pounds!! :-)
