Favorite Ab workouts

I know a lot of ab workouts, from whats the best for you and worst for you. I hate doing anything on a ball. I love doing them with free weights thuogh anywhere from 7 pounds to 20. My favorite would have to be anything with free weights standing up because those really burn. What are your favorites?

My favorite is doing anything with pilates. I can't say which exercise works the best but I just know that pilates is the only way to get a really good workout for my abs and feel the burn after. When I do other types of ab work for the abs I really don't feel the burn the next day but with pilates I sometimes feel the burn for 2 days after!!

Sorry - mis-interpreted the question...

Thought you were wondering what ab workouts in general were our favorites

Can't help you with the standing free weight ones - never did any of those before.

When i do the standing exercises. I usually put on hand behind my head and one hand at side with free weight go down to the side as far as your back allows you hold for 3-5 counts then come back up i usually repeat that about 12 times while still keeping my abs sucked into my spine you can also do that in the front. Make sure your spine is not bent or you are not slouching, try and keep good posture. and don't let your shoulder dangle when you are holding the free weight, you could really hurt yourself, especially if you are doing this with a heavy weight.

can you direct me to a website that gives instructions on the ab workouts using pilates that is mentioned in one of the posts as leaving a burn later too. i do the usual ab crunches, 100 a day, and some yoga that involves tightening the abs.

For the pilates ab workouts...

I recommend going to Winsor Pilates website and ordering and/or renting some of those videos if you're brand new to pilates. You need to learn about your "powerhouse" and proper breathing in order to get the most benefit from the pilates exercises.

I have an old series of tapes from the Windsor Pilates program...

An intro. to pilates - VERY slow but good instruction on how to do everything right...

20 minute program - still not very challenging for me personally but good for a beginner

A longer 50 min? program that is quite a challenge and leaves me feeling the burn!
