What is the best heart rate monitor?

Looking for a GOOD heart rate monitor without breaking the bank. Any suggestions?

I have a very basic one. It just shows heart rate - no averages over time, no downloading to a computer, no gps. My fiance has one with many more (expensive) features, but I really think that's unnecessary unless you are an athlete and really want to get a lot of data on your performance. He has never used any of the fancy features on his hrm. For exercise and weight loss purposes, I would say go for an inexpensive model but spend some time determining what your heart rate zones are so that you can get the most out of the one you buy. It's a great way to monitor workout progress and achieve specific results (fat burning, endurance, building power etc)!

I use Polar F6. It costs around $100 on ebay. It is the best money I have ever invested in any piece of fitness equipment. I have been using it for two years.

It has the same features are F4 ($70 on ebay), which is the next step down, but also has a special "coded transmission" which basically means it won't pick up any outside signal interference or get confused with someone else's monitor if you workout in the gym.

The calorie counter is SO useful, and really motivational.
