I just want to be NORMAL!
OK, I just want to ask: I've been eating pretty well for the past 7 weeks and am happy with the progress I've made. BUT! The more veggies I incorporate (like salads, cucumber, carrot, corn, lima beans, etc.), the more gassy I get and the more constipated! I want to have healthy, normal BM's, and the OTC laxatives just give you diarrhea. Any suggestions on something I can eat regularly to help?
I am allergic to flaxseed oil and seeds, by the way. :)

I'm in the same windy boat...but I've gone through this before and it WILL get better after a few weeks. Your body has to adjust to digesting higher levels of fibre.

gas-x works well.

The other thing is this...
CHEW YOUR FOOD THOROUGHLY... and you'll notice a decrease in the gas...
I love Kashi Go Lean whole grain cereal, but it used to give me the worst gas in the world (and nothing is more embarrassing when in an office and you get stinky farts...)
My friend also had the same problem... well, then I started thinking about things and decided to see if there would be any change if I'd chew the cereal more thoroughly... I did and "Voila!" the gas problem went away!
The problem is that many people are accustomed to gulping their meals down quickly, without chewing the food properly. Because of that, the stomach acids and digestion process on the food becomes more difficult on the digestive track and therefore you get the dreaded gas problem.... Once you realize that and chew your food more slowly (the saliva in your mouth is supposed to start the digestion process) You will find things will improve....
Good Luck!

chewing your food slowly helps with the gas . . .AND it helps you fill up because you are eating slower, you may eat less than you originally planned!
gas X helps too-but only after you've eaten the problem causing foods.
your body will adjust! give it time!

I also eat a high fiber diet and after a year, my body still hasn't adjusted. It goes through phases when it's just fine and then a couple of weeks where I can't eat anything the gas and bloating is so bad. Does anyone else have this consistent problem? No type of gas/anti-bloating meds seem to help.

They key to not having gas is consistency in your diet. I eat a ton of fruits/veggies -- but when I stop eating as many I get gas, and when I start up again I get gas. Like during the holidays when I wasn't eating as well -- I was very gassy. Just try to gain consistency and you won't experience gas.
